Transcendental Journey

The Requiem by Maurice Durufle is one of the greatest choral works of the 20th century. Based on Gregorian themes and adorned with truly transcendent harmonies the music transports you to an enchanted, ethereal place. This is our 76th year, and little could we have known the very composer we commissioned to celebrate our 50th would now be our director. We will present a command performance of “Resounding Praise” and other delightful selections by Faure, Kean and Hagenberg in our program as well.

We will explore the many hues of blue, from the Blues, Blue Moon, Blue Velvet and Blue Skies to movements of the Mass set to bluegrass and jazzy blues. Stephen Foster, “the father of American music,” wrote more than 200 songs during the 19th century. We will share his story as we celebrate in song this American icon. Then we will leap into the 20th century and share songs from such luminaries as the Beach Boys, Neil Diamond, Otis Redding, Carole King and many more.
