Transcendental Journey
The Requiem by Maurice Durufle is one of the greatest choral works of the 20th century. Based on Gregorian themes and adorned with truly transcendent harmonies the music transports you to an enchanted, ethereal place. This is our 76th year, and little could we have known the very composer we commissioned to celebrate our 50th would now be our director. We will present a command performance of “Resounding Praise” and other delightful selections by Faure, Kean and Hagenberg in our program as well.
“Portrait in Blue”
When it comes to colors in music, the “blues” are a world unto themselves. We will explore the many hues of blue, from the Blues, Blue Moon, Blue Velvet and Blue Skies to movements of the Mass set to bluegrass and jazzy blues. It promises to be a colorful excursion that will delight both the aural and visual senses.
“Gloria-ous Holiday Music”
The “Gloria in Excelsis” (Glory to God in the Highest) text has been set to music for a millennium by the greatest master composers. We will perform some of the most thrilling including settings by Beethoven, Jenkins, Randall, Pickett and Bass. What do you get when you perform a group of “Glorias”? You get the most “Gloria-ous Holiday Music” ever, and a concert you do not want to miss.
Spring Concert - “Glory Hallelujah, Freedom”
Celebrating the dreams of all people who call America home. From Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” to “Battle Hymn of the Republic” to Stephen Stills “Cost of Freedom” to “Stand Up” from Harriet Tubman’s acclaimed film, “We Shall Overcome” to “We Are the World” this promises to be the most uplifting choral program of the year.
Classical Concert - “From Dusk to Dawn”
We will serenade you with music from every hour of the day. From a “Clear Blue Morning” through a “Lazy Afternoon” into an “Evening Prayer.” Our featured work will be Christopher Tin’s Grammy award-winning crossover work “Calling All Dawns,” music that will transport you through time.
Holiday Concert - "The Suite-est Time of the Year"
Two brand new Christmas Suites for choir and orchestra have just been arranged by Taylor Davis, with a medley of your most beloved carols. A Hanukkah song, audience holiday sing-along, and some Christmas comics complete a truly “suite” holiday presentation you do not want to miss.
Singing America
Stephen Foster, “the father of American music,” wrote more than 200 songs during the 19th century. We will share his story as we celebrate in song this American icon. Then we will leap into the 20th century and share songs from such luminaries as the Beach Boys, Neil Diamond, Otis Redding, Carole King and many more.
Peace and Comfort
Two works will be featured. The “Dona Nobis Pacem” is a new work by our conductor that focuses on social justice and peace. The Mozart Requiem may be the most well-known setting of the Requiem text. Together these works offer a concert of justice, peace and comfort.
Season for Singing
The holidays are for singing, and we will brighten your spirit with music from Bach to the present day. Accompanied by chamber instruments, our concert will include a sing-along and traditional, Chanukkah and Kwanza favorites.
